[Today is Rapunzel’s birthday, but she’s not…feeling particularly excited about it. Not like she had been before she’d arrived, when her birthday was supposed to have been the next day. Everything got a little weird when she found out the dates didn’t correlate and…after the things that have happened and the things she’s seen she just can’t bring herself to get all that excited.  

She can’t even follow through on her original plan to see the floating lights, and she continually wonders about Flynn, and her mother. What was happening? Did they know she was missing? Was it really true and her world had been…unmade? If that was the case…should she be grieving?  

She didn’t know.  

Instead of announcing to the world it was her birthday as she may have done at one time, she’s in the clothier’s tower – there’s plenty to do, and Rapunzel finds some small comfort in menial tasks like washing dishes and sewing gowns. It helps to take her mind off of her situation, and the loneliness she feels despite being in a castle full of people.

[Sorting out your own laundry was hard. It was harder still when you had to pick out spare clothes to wear in the meantime, but you had no idea how any of the spare clothes worked. Kairi had tried to pick a time to come and look when nobody else would be around so that she could just try things on and figure it out.

But that obviously hadn't worked.

She spoke from the doorway.]

Um. Hello.

[Rapunzel was squinting at her handiwork in her lap, needle poised and her tongue sticking out of the corner of her mouth as she scrutinized her newest seam. She jumps when she hears a voice.]
 
Oh!
 
[The needle falls and Rapunzel scrambles to her feet.]
 
Hello!

[Kairi almost jumps when she startles the other girl.]

Heh, I'm sorry.

[She walks into the room and picks up the needle as it starts to roll away. She reaches out a hand, offering it back to the other girl.]

Do you work here?

Oh, thank you!

[She reaches to carefully take the needle, then smiles and shakes her head.]

Oh, no no...I'm just trying to sew myself a dress, that's all. This seemed like the best place to do that...

[She blinked at her.]

Did you come to sew, too?

Oh?

[She glances curiously from the fabric in Rapunzel's hands to the dress she's wearing. Did she sew that too?]

Oh! Heh, no. I can't sew. I don't even know how the clothes here work, really.

[She clasps her hands behind her back and her gaze settles on an elaborate set of gauntlet-sleeves, apparently not attached to any top in particular.]

I was just looking for something spare to wear.

[Rapunzel smiles at her, then sets the gown she was sewing aside.]

Oh! Well...there's plenty here, I could...I could help you, if you want! And show you how they work...

Oh? Sure! Thank you!

[Kairi wanders between the folded and hung clothing, admiring but not yet daring to touch.]

They're all so beautiful.

[She glances back at Rapunzel.]

Do you make all your clothes yourself?

[She looked down at her dress, then back up to Kairi as she nodded.]

I...yes. I do. I made this...

[She pointed to the other dress she had set down.]

And...I made that one, too. Would...you maybe like one?

[lightwithin]

Oh! No, it's okay. Heh, I can just pick one from here.

[Kairi smiles.]

I just thought it was pretty, that's all. They both are.

Are you sure?

[She does so like making things. Keeps her hands busy.]

Well...

[She glances sidelong at the part-finished dress again. She's tempted. She's really tempted.]

Is it hard?

Well, not really - I could always teach you, if you wanted!

[Kairi hesitates and then nods.]

Sure! Okay.
